A word about Nairobi, Kenya
At the turn of the century Nairobi was a swampy tent city. Today, it is a cosmopolitan capitol of Kenya, today home to 1.5 million people. Like most modern cities, Nairobi has crowded markets and trading areas, middle class suburbs, and spacious mansions that make it at par with any modern city in the world. The city offers big screen film, theaters, restaurants, bookshops, cafes and bars full of tourists from across the world.Major attractions in Nairobi, Kenya
National MuseumAs me and my friend started our trip, we started the sight-seeing from National Museum of Nairobi. My friend who was accompanying me was eager to see this museum because it had been reopened to the visitors after the Europe- Sponsored renovation. Our guide told us that it was a world heritage site. He also told that it had doubled in size and is now more favorable for the scholarly researches.
As soon as we stepped in there, we had the common reaction. We felt as if we had stepped in a scientist's laboratory where the skulls of the pre-historic times were preserved in the glasses. The artifacts of the Masai-tribes were fantasizing. It acquainted us to the rich Kenya Culture and introduced us to the wildlife.
Snake Park
Adjacent to the National Museum was Snake Park. I had wanted to see this Snake Park as I had heard a lot about it. I got goosebumps as I saw some of the most venomous species, the Puff Adder and the Black Mamba. This park not only protected these species but also collected their venom that could be given to the needy in time of requirement. To balance my fear, I had some beautiful wishes to see- Nyasa, Victoria and Tanganyika. The Nile Crocodile was another famous reptile to add to the list.
Nairobi National Park
Nairobi houses the National Park in it's center and hence I could view the wildlife in the middle of the town. What truly marked my memory was a monument and the cause for it. It was built to stop the ivory trade. There were picnic sites too at the National Park where me and my friend could have a gala time. Out of Leopard Cliff, Ivory Burning Site and the Hippo Pool, we chose the hippo pool. It was fun partying there amidst the animals.
